Zimbabwe international midfielder Gerald Takwara has completed a move to Libyan Premier League side Al Ittihad Misurata SC following the expiry of his contract with Iraqi Stars League outfit Al-Minaa SC.
The 30-year-old defensive midfielder joins the Libyan giants on a free transfer and was officially unveiled this week after passing his medical tests.
Confirming the signing, Al Ittihad Misurata announced:
“Our new Zimbabwean international Gerald Takwara officially signs a contract to join our first team after successfully passing medical checkups. Welcome, Takwara, to Libya — your second home, among the fans of the green and white battalion.”
Takwara’s professional journey began in Zimbabwe before a move to South Africa with Ajax Cape Town. He later returned home for a stint with Ngezi Platinum Stars before heading back to South Africa to join Venda Football Academy.
His career path has since seen him venture into the Middle East, first in Saudi Arabia, then Iraq with Al-Minaa, and now North Africa, where he links up with Al Ittihad Misurata.
On the international stage, Takwara has been a dependable figure for the Zimbabwe Warriors, representing his country at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and in several COSAFA tournaments.
