Zimbabwe Warriors new coach announcement imminent ahead of AFCON

Magwizi confirms Warriors coach announcement date

Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Nqobile Magwizi has revealed that the new Warriors head coach will be named early next week.

The association is in the final stages of selecting a replacement for Michael Nees, who was dismissed last week after a disappointing run of results just a year into his reign.

Speaking to reporters, Magwizi confirmed that the process is nearing completion:

“The process of appointing a coach is at an advanced stage. I think by Monday or Tuesday next week, we should be in a position to make an announcement,” he said.

With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals now just over six weeks away, ZIFA is eager to have the new coach in place to begin preparations.

Magwizi added that the technical committee is currently finalising a shortlist of candidates:

“They are working around the clock, and I’m confident that next week we will announce a new coach to lead our boys.”
