ZIFA suspends two referees for poor officiating

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has suspended two referees Lawrence Zimondi (pictured) and Rumeck Edgar for poor match handling on the 4th of October when Dynamos played Ngezi Platinum Stars.

In a press statement ZIFA said the decision follows reports from the match commissioner regarding the Premier Soccer League fixture between Dynamos FC and Ngezi Platinum Stars FC, played at Rufaro Stadium on 4 October 2025.

According to ZIFA the reports highlighted incorrect decisions that materially affected the outcome of the match.

The football mother body said after reviewing the matter, it determined that both officials breached Article 22 of the Referees’ Code of Conduct.

ZIFA statement read:

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) wishes to inform the football fraternity and the public that referees Lawrence Zimondi and Rumeck Edgar have been suspended from officiating Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches from match day 31 to the end of the 2025 season.

The decision follows reports from the match commissioner regarding the Premier Soccer League fixture between Dynamos FC and Ngezi Platinum Stars FC, played at Rufaro Stadium on 4 October 2025.

The reports highlighted incorrect decisions that materially affected the outcome of the match.

After reviewing the matter, ZIFA determined that both officials breached Article 22 of the Referees’ Code of Conduct.

In line with the Association’s commitment to uphold integrity, professionalism, and fairness in all competitions, the two referees have been suspended for the remainder of the 2025 PSL Season.

ZIFA remains steadfast in promoting accountability and ensuring that the standard of officiating meets the highest expectations of the game.
