The Zimbabwe national football team has officially departed for Morocco, marking the final step in their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Warriors’ journey followed a send-off dinner held in Harare last week, where senior government officials addressed the squad and delivered messages of encouragement ahead of Africa’s premier football tournament.
With the AFCON set to run from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, Zimbabwe concluded their final preparations on home soil earlier today before heading north.
The team had opened camp last week with an enlarged squad, briefly breaking for the weekend before regrouping for their final training session in Harare. That session marked the end of domestic preparations before departure.
A colourful farewell unfolded at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, where supporters gathered in large numbers to salute the Warriors as they left for Morocco. The Zimbabwe National Soccer Supporters Association (ZNSSA) led the mobilisation, calling on fans to don national colours and create a vibrant atmosphere.
ZNSSA president Joseph Mutawu hailed the turnout and the spirit shown by supporters.
“Zimbabweans responded in great numbers. The airport was filled with national pride as we waved our boys goodbye in unity and belief,” Mutawu said.
The team completed check-in formalities in the afternoon before boarding their scheduled flight later in the day.
As the Warriors now settle into their AFCON base in Morocco, attention turns to the continental stage, where Zimbabwe will aim to defy expectations and deliver a performance worthy of the nation’s passionate support.
