On the very day Khama Billiat was recalled to the Warriors squad, Zimbabwe lost another son of Mufakose—football legend Angirayi “Durawall” Chapo. The former Dynamos captain and Warriors defender passed away yesterday morning at his home in Mufakose.
Chapo’s name is etched in Zimbabwean football history. He captained Dynamos to league titles in 1989 and 1991, and also turned out for the Zimbabwe Warriors in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His tough tackling at right-back earned him the nickname Durawall—a wall few wingers could ever get past.
Warriors Career
Chapo represented Zimbabwe on the international stage between 1988 and 1991, making 7 official FIFA appearances for the Warriors, all as a defender. Though he never scored, his contribution in stabilising the backline was widely respected.

1991 – 1 FIFA match
Veteran commentator Charles “CNN” Mabika hailed him as “one of the greatest right wing-backs Zimbabwe has ever produced,” praising his leadership and composure. Former teammate Memory Mucherahowa, who succeeded him as Dynamos captain in 1993, described him as “a brother and an inspirational figure.”
Club Career
Chapo’s professional journey began at CAPS United in 1983, before switching to Dynamos, where he played from 1984 to 1991. At DeMbare, he became captain in 1988, holding the armband until 1993. Under his leadership, Dynamos lifted league titles and maintained their dominance in Zimbabwean football.

A hard tackler on the pitch, but a humble leader off it, Durawall will forever be remembered as one of Zimbabwe’s finest defenders.
