The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) wishes to provide an update on the Warriors’ international friendly match against Algeria played on Thursday evening in Saudi Arabia.

Zimbabwe lost 3–1, in an encounter that delivered stern lessons in the first half and meaningful encouragement in the second as preparations continue for upcoming international assignments.

Algeria started the match with intent, applying high pressure and moving the ball with pace and precision.

Zimbabwe were pushed onto the defensive early, and the North Africans capitalised in the 14th minute when Baghdad Bounedjah finished a well-worked move inside the box.

They maintained their momentum, doubling the lead in the 41st minute through Mohamed Amoura after a swift interchange.

Deep into first-half added time, Jaouen Hadjam made it 3–0, punishing a defensive lapse to give Algeria a commanding half-time lead.

It was a dominant opening period from Algeria, who scored all three of their goals before the interval and controlled the tempo through intensity, mobility, and clinical finishing.

The second half, however, saw a commendable turnaround from the Warriors.

Zimbabwe emerged from the break sharper, more aggressive, and better coordinated.

Four halftime substitutions, Padera, Murwira, Chirewa, and Dube, injected fresh energy and tactical balance, immediately shifting the rhythm of the contest.

The Warriors regained control of midfield spaces, pressed higher, and limited Algeria’s ability to build from the back.

With improved transitions, purposeful use of the wide channels, and structured pressing, Zimbabwe began to dictate extended phases of play.

Additional changes, Jalai replacing Hadebe midway through the half and Msendami coming on for an injured Galloway, added urgency and attacking thrust.

The Warriors’ resilience and second-half dominance were finally rewarded in the 88th minute when sustained pressure in the Algerian penalty area resulted in a spot-kick.

Tawanda Chirewa stepped up confidently and converted, giving Zimbabwe a deserved goal and underlining the impact of the team’s second-half adjustments.

The Warriors ultimately won the second half 1–0, demonstrating their renewed tactical clarity and mental resolve.

While the final result favoured Algeria, the fixture offered valuable insights and a competitive platform for evaluation.

Facing a strong North African side with several Europe-based players presented the Warriors with a demanding test, but the team’s strong response after halftime showcased character, depth, and growing cohesion.

The technical team will draw significant positives from the improved structure, energy, and confidence displayed in the second period as preparations continue for the Warriors’ forthcoming international commitments.
