The new Warriors coach Marian Marinica says his players did not play hard enough the way he wanted in the first half, implying that this contributed to them losing the match by three goals.
“My players didn’t work hard enough the way I wanted in the first half,” said new coach.
The Warriors came an improved side in the second half 1–0, demonstrating their renewed tactical clarity and mental resolve.
And as noted by the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), while the final result favoured Algeria, the fixture offered valuable insights and a competitive platform for evaluation.
ZIFA says facing a strong North African side with several Europe-based players presented the Warriors with a demanding test, but the team’s strong response after halftime showcased character, depth, and growing cohesion.
The association says the technical team will draw significant positives from the improved structure, energy, and confidence displayed in the second period as preparations continue for the Warriors’ forthcoming international commitments.
Speaking few days ago, Marinica revealed that his technical team is focusing on improving the team’s attacking play following the national side’s recent struggles in front of goal.
Speaking ahead of the game, the Romanian coach said: “We’ll be looking to address some of the areas that haven’t been right in the past – creating scoring opportunities, taking better shots, hitting the target with more danger, and, as much as possible, scoring goals.”
And commenting on the team’s preparations, Marinica added: “I’m very pleased with the players’ response, the staff’s commitment, and the support we’ve received from officials who are doing their best to assist us in every way possible.”Coaching certification program
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe will play against Qatar on 17 November in Doha, in another friendly match.
The two matches will act as preparations for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations AFCON 2025, to be hosted by Morocco.
