Warriors vice-captain Marshall Munetsi will sit out Zimbabwe’s opening fixture of the September international window after being ruled out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group C clash against Benin on 5 September.
The Wolves midfielder was named in Michael Nees’ squad for the qualifiers but is suspended for the trip to Cotonou after accumulating two yellow cards earlier in the campaign. Munetsi was first booked against Lesotho in June 2024, before receiving another caution in the 25 March 2025 fixture against Nigeria.
Benin will also be without a key midfielder, with Dodo Dokou serving a suspension of his own for the Matchday 7 encounter.
Munetsi is expected to return for Zimbabwe’s next assignment against Rwanda on 9 September at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg, where the Warriors will be playing their designated “home” fixture.
