Marshall Munetsi has raised questions over his exclusion from Zimbabwe’s final AFCON squad, suggesting communication issues rather than injury alone led to his omission.
Although the Wolves midfielder picked up a calf strain against Nottingham Forest, he insisted the injury was manageable and that his club had assured ZIFA he was progressing well. Munetsi says Wolves even offered additional medical support to fast-track his return, but claims the association never followed up.
“This one hurts,” he said. “Representing the Warriors is the greatest honour. My injury was improving, and Wolves told ZIFA I could be ready for AFCON, yet there was no further communication and decisions were made without clarity.”
Munetsi added that while disappointed, he fully supports the selected squad and remains committed to returning whenever called upon. “I respect the coach and stand behind the boys. I’ll always be ready to defend the nation I love.”
