More to play for this weekend as relegation returns

Fireworks are expected in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) this weekend as relegation returns.

Apparently, nine teams are fighting relegation on the last matchday.

Relegation-threatened teams:

10) Highlanders – 38 points
11) Chicken Inn – 38 points
12) Manica Diamonds – 38 points
13) Dynamos – 38 points
14) Triangle – 37 points
15) Bikita Minerals – 37 points
16) Green Fuel – 36 points
17) Yadah – 35 points
18) Kwekwe United – 10 points

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) yesterday overturned a proposal by PSL to freeze relegation.

The PSL had resolved to suspend relegation of teams and add four promoted teams to turn the league into a 22-team competition.

Voted for by PSL governors, however ZIFA said their act is illegal.

“Should the Premier Soccer League or any other member wish to propose an adjustment to the number of participating teams, or propose any other resolution, such a request must be formally submitted to the Association.

“In accordance with ZIFA statutes, the proposal will then be tabled for consideration at the next ZIFA Congress,” reads the ZIFA statement.

Meanwhile, with the local football mother body rubbishing the PSL proposal it means the fight against relegation is now on.
