Maswanhise’s Magic Earns CAF Move of the Day Despite Warriors’ AFCON Exit

Tawanda Maswanhise earned continental recognition after his stunning equaliser against South Africa national football team was voted Move of the Day by CAF following the Warriors’ final Group B match at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The lively winger lit up the contest in the 19th minute, bursting past three defenders before calmly slotting the ball beyond goalkeeper Ronwen Williams to draw Zimbabwe level.

It marked Maswanhise’s first-ever AFCON goal, coming after he had started on the bench in the Warriors’ opening two group matches. He remained influential throughout, also playing a key role in Zimbabwe’s second goal, which ended as an own goal by Aubrey Modiba.

Despite the Warriors’ spirited display, South Africa edged the contest to secure qualification for the Round of 16 alongside Egypt. Zimbabwe finished bottom of Group B, while Angola ended third on two points after holding Egypt to a goalless draw.
