Maswanhise Makes It Eight for the Season for Motherwell
Tawanda Maswanhise’s outstanding debut campaign in Scotland hit another milestone on Wednesday night, as the 22-year-old Zimbabwean winger struck again in Motherwell’s 2–0 victory over Dundee United at Fir Park.
Maswanhise opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, finishing neatly from Emmanuel Longelo’s low cross — his eighth goal of the season across all competitions, and his ninth overall goal contribution including assists. His consistency in front of goal is fast making him one of the Scottish Premiership’s most exciting young forwards.
Elliot Watt sealed the result with a superb curling effort midway through the second half, as Motherwell notched back-to-back league wins for the first time this campaign and climbed to fifth place, just a point off third.
Maswanhise’s latest strike continues an impressive run that has seen him recover strongly from off-field frustrations — including the loss of his passport, which ruled him out of Zimbabwe’s last World Cup qualifier against Lesotho. Since then, he has channelled his focus back into club football with maturity and purpose.
At 22, Maswanhise remains the youngest among the top 30 scorers in the Scottish Premiership, underlining just how far ahead of the curve he is. His explosive pace, direct running and composure in front of goal have become trademarks of Motherwell’s attacking play under Jens Berthel Askou.
Maswanhise’s overall tally of 8 goals and 1 assist across league and cup games highlights his growing influence — a figure that places him among the Premiership’s top performers.
For Zimbabwe, however, his scintillating club form raises an important question:
What will it take to unlock the same Maswanhise in Warriors colours?
While his combination play and supply lines flourish at Motherwell, the national setup has yet to replicate that rhythm. At his current trajectory — still developing physically and technically — Zimbabwe may just have one of their most gifted forwards yet to fully bloom.
