Warriors forward Tawanda Maswanhise has emphasised the importance of securing maximum points as Zimbabwe prepare for their next FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
The Motherwell winger, who has been in fine form in the Scottish Premiership with four goals in the past two months, said the team cannot afford any slip-ups if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive.
“I don’t care how it happens — we must get the three points against Benin,” Maswanhise told ZIFA Media.
Zimbabwe are currently on six points in Group C. Victories in their remaining four matches would take them to 16 points, a tally that South Africa coach Hugo Broos has suggested could be enough to secure qualification for the 2026 finals.
The Warriors face Benin in Abidjan on 5 September, before hosting Rwanda in South Africa on 9 September. Their final two fixtures are against South Africa on 6 October and Lesotho on 13 October.
So far in the campaign, Zimbabwe have drawn twice with Nigeria, lost to South Africa and Lesotho, and drawn with both Rwanda and Benin.
