Maswanhise Targets Bigger Goal Haul After Opening Day Brace

Tawanda Maswanhise has set his sights on improving his goal tally this season after netting a brace to kick off Motherwell’s Scottish Cup campaign over the weekend.

The Zimbabwe international scored both goals in Motherwell’s Group G clash against Clyde FC, helping the team to a 2–2 draw in regulation time. The match was ultimately decided on penalties, with Motherwell edging Clyde 5–4 in the shootout.

Looking ahead to their upcoming fixture against Peterhead, Maswanhise expressed his determination to build on last season’s performance, where he scored six goals in his debut campaign for the club.

“I’m happy to kick-start the campaign with two goals,” he said. “I really want to get more goals this season. I’m just delighted with how I’ve started.”

He added:

“There’s always room for improvement, and I’ve set myself higher targets for this season because I now know what the league is like. I understand the league better than I did last year, and hopefully I can achieve the goals I’ve set for myself.”

Maswanhise joined Motherwell in August 2024 from Leicester City, initially on a six-month deal. His impact earned him a contract extension in November, securing his stay at the club until summer 2026.
