Zimbabwe’s Tawanda Maswanhise in Doubt for Bafana Clash After Hamstring Scare
Warriors winger Tawanda Maswanhise provided an assist but gave both Motherwell and Zimbabwe fans a late scare after appearing to suffer a hamstring problem during his side’s narrow 3–2 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead on Sunday.
The pacey attacker, who set up Apostolos Stamatelopoulos’ first-half equaliser, was seen receiving treatment on the touchline in the closing stages after clutching his leg. Match commentators noted that the 22-year-old was “down having his hamstring stretched” — sparking concern with just days to go before Zimbabwe’s crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Durban.
Fortunately, Maswanhise was later spotted walking unaided at full-time, easing fears of a serious injury.
The former Leicester City prospect, who has been in fine form since his move to Scotland, continues to be a vital attacking option for the Warriors technical team, and his availability could prove crucial ahead of the double-header against Bafana Bafana and Lesotho.
Maswanhise’s assist on Sunday — one of his many goal contribution of the season — showcased his confidence and sharpness, further strengthening calls for him to be included in Michael Nees’ final Warriors squad.
As one fan posted on X shortly after the match:
“He’s ready for Africa — pace, power, and end product. Let’s hope the hamstring’s fine. We need him against South Africa.”
