Maswanhise Scores in Six-Goal Thriller Against Hearts

Tawanda Maswanhise was on target for Motherwell in their thrilling 3-3 draw with Hearts in a Scottish Premiership clash at Tynecastle Park on Saturday.

The Zimbabwean forward struck in the 49th minute to double Motherwell’s lead after their early opener, registering his first league goal of the 2025/26 campaign. The strike adds to the four goals he had already netted in the Scottish League Cup, taking his overall tally to five across all competitions.

Maswanhise, who lasted 80 minutes on the pitch, earned a player rating of 6.2. He had two shots in total, one on target and one off, with an expected goals value of 0.37 and an xG on target of 0.66. Both of his efforts came from inside the penalty area, and although he found the net once, he also missed a big chance that could have put the game beyond Hearts’ reach.

In terms of attacking play, he registered three touches in the opposition box from 22 overall touches, suffered two fouls, and was flagged offside once. His passing was efficient, completing four of six attempts at an accuracy rate of 67 percent, with three of those being in the final third at 60 percent success. However, his creative contribution remained limited, with no big chances created and a very low expected assists figure of 0.01.

Defensively, Maswanhise was heavily involved in duels, contesting 14 in total but winning only four of his 11 on the ground (36 percent) and none of his three aerial challenges. He completed one of his two tackles (50 percent) but committed five fouls during the match, showing the physical edge of the contest at Tynecastle.

Despite Motherwell’s bright start, Hearts mounted a spirited comeback to snatch a share of the points.

Maswanhise, who recently extended his contract with Motherwell until 2027 with the option of a further year, is expected to feature in Zimbabwe’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers early next month.
