Tawanda Maswanhise’s sensational rise in Scottish football continued on Tuesday night as the Zimbabwean forward struck once more in Motherwell’s 2–0 victory over Hibernian, taking him to the top of the Scottish Premiership scoring charts.
The 22-year-old opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 19th minute after a Grant Hanley handball, showing trademark composure. Just three minutes later, Elijah Just capitalised on a defensive blunder to make it 2–0, while Hanley’s nightmare continued when he was sent off for tripping Maswanhise as he burst through on goal.
Motherwell dominated the contest and have now gone five games unbeaten, climbing to fourth place, level on points with Hibs and Rangers as their momentum continues to build under Jens Berthel Askou.
Maswanhise’s Hot Streak: From Team of the Week to League Top Scorer
This latest goal comes just days after Maswanhise was named in the Scottish Premiership Team of the Week, following his brilliant brace in Motherwell’s 3–1 victory over Kilmarnock.
In that match, the Warriors international struck twice in the first half — scoring in the 17th and 26th minutes — taking his tally to seven league goals in 12 matches and 11 across all competitions at that point. He was the only Motherwell player chosen among the week’s best performers.
Tuesday night’s penalty has now pushed him to eight league goals, making him the current top scorer in the Scottish Premiership.
