Maswanhise linked with Celtic as Motherwell stand firm

Zimbabwe Warriors star Tawanda Maswanhise is attracting serious attention from Celtic after Hoops boss Martin O’Neill was spotted scouting him during Motherwell’s 1–0 win over Ross County on Saturday.

Maswanhise, who tops the Scottish Premiership scoring charts, struck his 16th goal of the season at Fir Park to continue a remarkable campaign with Motherwell FC. Reports in Scotland suggest Celtic are closely monitoring the former Leicester City academy graduate ahead of a possible January move.

However, Motherwell head coach Jens Berthel Askou insists the club is under no pressure to sell. He stressed that there are no plans for departures this window, citing financial stability following the summer sale of Lennon Miller and emphasising the club’s desire to keep Maswanhise developing at Fir Park.

Released by Leicester City in 2024, Maswanhise joined Motherwell on a short-term deal before earning a long-term contract in August 2025, keeping him at the club until 2027. Askou believes both the player and the club still have “massive” potential to grow together before any future move.

Internationally, Maswanhise’s form has also been evident. After being benched for Zimbabwe’s opening AFCON matches, he responded with a standout goal against South Africa, underlining his rising status both in Scotland and on the continental stage.
