Makuwe Clears the Air on Chiragwi Incident: “It Was Accidental”

Ngezi Platinum Stars midfielder MacDonald Makuwe has clarified that the physical altercation involving his coach, Takesure Chiragwi, during the match against Dynamos was purely accidental and not an act of aggression.

The incident took place on Saturday during a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter that ended in controversy after Dynamos were awarded what Makuwe described as an “unwarranted goal.”
According to the player, the decision sparked visible frustration among the Ngezi Platinum players and technical team.

“In the heat of the moment, our Head Coach, Mr. Chiragwi, tried to calm us down and prevent any further confrontation with the referee or fourth official,” Makuwe said in his official statement addressed to the club’s CEO.

He explained that during the exchange, Chiragwi — who had already been sent off — inadvertently raised his hand and made contact with him.
“I want to emphasize that the incident did not cause me any harm, nor did it affect our relationship,” he said. “I see Coach Chiragwi as more than just a coach; he has been both a mentor and a father figure to me.”

Makuwe added that Chiragwi immediately apologised to him in front of the team and club chairman, Mr. Musariri, a gesture he said he appreciated.

He further clarified that the issue was not serious and that he held no grievances over what happened.

Chiragwi has since apologised publicly and temporarily stepped down from his role as Warriors assistant coach for the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
