Veteran Zimbabwe Warriors forward Knowledge Musona says he’s ready to remind Bafana Bafana exactly why South African fans once called him The Smiling Assassin, as the Warriors gear up for Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Durban.
Zimbabwe take on South Africa at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 10 October (18:00 CAT) in their penultimate Group C clash. The Warriors sit bottom of the table, while Bafana—who lost three points after the Teboho Mokoena saga—are battling Benin for top spot.
Now 35, Musona remains confident and inspired ahead of the derby clash.
“I played here in South Africa at Kaizer Chiefs, and I did very well,” Musona told reporters.
“They know me, and I want to do what they know me for — scoring goals. My target is to perform well and make our nation happy.”
A Career That Still Commands Respect
Musona’s name still echoes in South African football. During his time with Kaizer Chiefs, he struck 40 goals and 13 assists in 88 appearances, winning the 2010/11 PSL Golden Boot and the Telkom Knockout Cup. His exploits earned him a move to Hoffenheim in Germany and later to Anderlecht in Belgium.
After a successful stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Tai, Al-Riyadh, and Al-Okhdood, Musona now captains Scotland FC (Zimbabwe), sharing the dressing room once again with Khama Billiat.
With 26 goals in 52 appearances for the Warriors, the captain remains one of Michael Nees’ most experienced weapons as Zimbabwe chase pride and momentum ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
As Friday’s showdown nears, Musona’s message is simple — he’s not finished yet.
“They know me for goals. That’s what I want to give them again.”
