Tinotenda Kadewereโs hopes of featuring at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have suffered a devastating blow after the Zimbabwean striker tore the medial meniscus in his right knee during a training session last week.
His club, Aris Thessaloniki, confirmed the severity of the injury in an official statement:
โUnfortunately, the news is not good for Tino Kadewere. According to the MRI results, the 29-year-old Zimbabwe international striker, who was injured in training, suffered a torn medial meniscus in his right knee and will undergo immediate surgery.โ
The forward has since gone under the knife and is expected to be out for at least three months, a timeline that could see him miss the AFCON finals in Morocco this December. The setback comes less than two weeks after Kadewere had just returned from a separate muscle injury that sidelined him for three weeks, further compounding Zimbabweโs attacking worries.
Meanwhile, Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba was another high-profile absentee from Luton Townโs matchday squad over the weekend. Manager Jack Wilshere made three changes โ with Milenic Alli missing out through illness, while Christ Makosso and Nakamba were both dropped for undisclosed reasons.
Nakamba had returned to England fully fit after featuring in Zimbabweโs World Cup qualifiers earlier this month, raising questions about his omission. His lack of minutes, coupled with Kadewereโs injury, presents a worrying scenario for Zimbabwe as they prepare for their long-awaited return to the continental stage at AFCON 2025.
