Highlanders, MWOS progress to Chibuku Super Cup semis

Highlanders and MWOS secured their places in the semifinals of the 2025 Chibuku Super Cup on Sunday to complete the last-four line-up.

At Barbourfields Stadium, Highlanders produced a spirited comeback to edge Scottland 2-1 on penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Scottland looked on course for victory after racing into a two-goal lead inside the first 35 minutes through Kingston Mureremba and Khama Billiat.

But Bosso responded quickly, with Learnmore Muyambo pulling one back four minutes later before Andrew Mbeba struck a last-minute equaliser to take the contest to penalties.

In the shootout, Highlanders held their nerve after missing the their first two kicks to progress and keep alive hopes of lifting the prestigious knockout trophy.

Apparently, at Gibbo Stadium in Chiredzi, MWOS cruised into the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Bikita Minerals. Clive Kwangwari opened the scoring as early as the sixth minute, before Arthur Banda doubled the lead midway through the second half.

Bikita pulled one back in the 76th minute through Tadiwa Murasiranwa, but their joy was short-lived as Wilson Mensah restored MWOS’s two-goal cushion with a well-taken free kick moments later.

Highlanders and MWOS now join Dynamos and Triangle United, who won their respective quarterfinals on Saturday, in the semifinals of this year’s competition.

Meanwhile, Dynamos and Triangle United booked their spots in the semifinals of the 2025 Chibuku Super Cup after recording contrasting victories in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

At Rufaro Stadium, Dynamos endured a tense battle against ZPC Kariba in a match that finished goalless after 90 minutes. Both teams created openings but lacked the finishing touch, forcing the tie into a penalty shootout.

Backed by a large section of their supporters, DeMbare kept their composure from the spot to secure a 4-2 win, with their goalkeeper producing two vital saves.

Earlier in the day at Gibbo Stadium, Triangle United delivered a commanding performance to overcome Manica Diamonds 2-0.

The Lowveld side controlled the tempo for most of the contest, with Munashe Bamara opening the scoring in the first half before Witness Shave sealed the result after the break.

Their disciplined approach in both attack and defence left the Mutare-based outfit with few answers.

Attention now turns to Sunday’s fixtures, which will decide the remaining two semifinalists.
