Highlanders Close In on South African Thabo Senong as New Head Coach

Highlanders are reportedly on the verge of appointing South African football coach Thabo Senong as their new head coach ahead of the 2026 season.

Senong has emerged as the leading candidate to take over from Pieter de Jongh, whose contract expires at the end of this month and is not expected to be renewed by the Bulawayo giants.

The seasoned tactician brings a wealth of experience from across the region. He has previously coached Singida Fountain Gate in Tanzania and also had a stint in charge of the Lesotho national team. Senong is widely respected for his work in youth development, having been part of Orlando Pirates’ development structures and later guiding South Africa’s Under-20 national team.

Sources indicate that Senong is likely to arrive with his own assistant coach and performance analyst, while Highlanders plan to appoint a second assistant coach locally to complement the technical team.

As part of a broader restructuring drive ahead of the new season, Highlanders are also set to name former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari as the club’s technical director. In this role, Benjani is expected to work closely with the incoming coach, helping to shape the club’s technical direction and long-term vision as Bosso look to rebuild for the 2026 campaign.
