Former Warriors captain Knowledge Musona punished by FIFA

Zimbabwe star and former Warriors captain Knowledge Musona has been given a heavy fine by FIFA following his red card during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group C clash against South Africa at Moses Mabhida Stadium in October.

Musona was sent off in the 64th minute after receiving a second yellow card.

FIFA charged the Warriors star under Article 14, Article 14.1(b) — “Misconduct of players and officials: unsporting behaviour towards an opponent or a person other than a match official.”

As a result, the 35-year-old forward was fined 5,000 Swiss francs (approximately US$6,200) and given a one-match suspension.

The suspension was served in Zimbabwe’s subsequent fixture against Lesotho during the same international window.

FIFA also sanctioned South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi with a similar fine following his altercation with Zimbabwe winger Tawanda Maswanhise in stoppage time of the same match.
