South African football fans have witnessed history — Zimbabwean goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has become the first player ever to win six Man of the Match awards in the Carling Knockout Cup, cementing his legendary status among the competition’s greats.

Despite his side Magesi FC losing 2–1 to Orlando Pirates in the quarterfinals on Tuesday evening, Chipezeze once again stood tall, producing a string of remarkable saves that kept the scoreline respectable and earned him yet another Carling Man of the Match award — and another R100,000 cheque.

Match Report: Orlando Pirates 2–1 Magesi FC

Orlando Pirates booked their spot in the Carling Knockout semi-finals after a hard-fought win over defending champions Magesi FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The Buccaneers, recovering from CAF Champions League disappointment, started brightly but were repeatedly denied by the inspired Chipezeze. The Zimbabwean shot-stopper made several world-class saves — including a point-blank header stop from Mbuthuma and a low diving effort to his near post.

Tshepang Moremi eventually broke the deadlock for Pirates shortly after halftime with a thunderous strike into the top corner, while Evidence Makgopa sealed the result in the 87th minute with a clinical finish.
Magesi’s Lehlogonolo Mokone grabbed a late consolation, but Pirates marched on to the last four.
