The Zimbabwe Warriors have suffered a setback ahead of Monday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Lesotho, with AmaZulu forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya withdrawn from camp due to injury.
Ngwenya, who picked up an ankle knock during training in the build-up to Friday’s goalless draw with South Africa in Durban, was listed among the substitutes but did not feature in that match.
Team sources confirmed the 22-year-old striker has not recovered in time and will miss the final Group C fixture at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. No replacement has been named by coach Michael Nees, who is expected to retain most of the Durban lineup.
Ngwenya’s absence is a blow to Zimbabwe’s attacking options, as the young forward has been in fine form for AmaZulu, netting four goals in eight league appearances this season.
The Warriors will now rely on their remaining forwards to finish their qualifying campaign strongly, as preparations continue for the AFCON finals in Morocco later this year.
