Alois Bunjira Endorses Pitso Mosimane, Kaitano Tembo for Zim Warriors Job

Former Warriors forward Alois Bunjira has thrown his weight behind Pitso Mosimane as the best candidate to take charge of Zimbabwe’s national team following the dismissal of Michael Nees.

Nees’ tenure ended this week after an underwhelming run of results — just two wins in 16 matches since taking over in July 2024. Although he managed to guide the Warriors to qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco, ZIFA decided to terminate his contract citing poor performances.

Assistant coach Kaitano Tembo is expected to lead the team to AFCON on an interim basis, but Bunjira believes Mosimane — a serial winner in South Africa, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia — offers the pedigree Zimbabwe needs.

“If we go for a foreign coach, I’d choose Pitso Mosimane,” Bunjira said. “He’s proven, experienced, and understands many of our players. For me, Pitso is the best.”

The former Mamelodi Sundowns man also mentioned Norman Mapeza as a potential local option but noted his past struggles managing relationships with foreign-based players.

“If Mapeza hadn’t had issues with the foreign boys, he could have achieved great things,” Bunjira added. “A local setup of Mapeza assisted by Kaitano Tembo, Joel Lupahla, and Lloyd Chitembwe would still be strong.”

ZIFA is expected to make an announcement soon on who will lead Zimbabwe into the AFCON finals in Morocco this December.
