CAPS United Secure Major Sponsorship Ahead of High-Stakes Harare Derby

Harare giants CAPS United have landed a major sponsorship deal just days before their explosive Harare Derby showdown with Dynamos FC at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.

Announcing the development on X, the Green Machine declared:

“New sponsor alert… Major boost ahead of Harare Derby and beyond. Kepekepe Bhora.”

The sponsorship is expected to provide CAPS with crucial financial muscle, strengthening the club both on and off the field. Management hailed the deal as a “major boost,” confident that it will inspire the team against their fiercest rivals and lay a foundation for the remainder of the season.

DYNAMOS midfielder Valentine Kadonzvo is hoping to rekindle the spirit of 2018 when DeMbare came from behind to beat CAPS United and move out of the relegation zone.

The two city rivals clash in the popular Harare Derby at Rufaro Stadium this Sunday, with the Glamour Boys seeking to avoid the dreaded chop, come end of season.

Seven years ago, then a rookie, Kadonzvo inscribed his name in Dynamos folklore after a crisp finish, and a late winner against CAPS United lifted the Glamour Boys out of the relegation zone.

On October 14 2018, DeMbare went into the Harare Derby, stuck in the bottom four.

Makepekepe took an early lead courtesy of midfielder Joel Ngodzo, but veteran striker Kingston Nkhata restored parity before Kadonzvo grabbed the headlines after taking Dynamos out of the drop zone, with five matches to go.

This Sunday, now a veteran, Kadonzvo walks back into the Harare Derby with a sense of déjà vu.

It is the same city rivals, same blue shirts under pressure and once again, Dynamos needing a win to escape the drop zone for the first time in more than three months.

Kadonzvo says he still feels the roar of that day in 2018.

“It was a special moment which had a special feeling for the club and the match had much significance.”

Kadonzvo is looking to harness that spirit this Sunday and show the younger players that survival is earned, not given.

“We have to fight, it is not going to be an easy match, but we have to fight and we have to win the match and get out of the relegation. We have been down for a long time, it’s high time we start moving upwards.”

The enterprising midfielder has another chance to prove that legends do not just belong to the past, sometimes they come back to guide the present.

A win for Dynamos will see them leapfrog CAPS United, but more importantly, it will take them out of the drop zone.

Fight for Pride

Whatever the outcome, the Harare Derby remains more than a battle for three points. It is a fight for pride, identity, and the soul of Zimbabwe’s two biggest clubs—now desperate to rediscover their lost glory.
