Warriors coach Michael Nees explains club visits as AFCON preparations take shape

Warriors head coach Michael Nees has shed light on his ongoing visits to Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clubs, stressing that his engagements go beyond simple talent scouting.

So far, Nees has met with the technical teams of CAPS United, Dynamos, Highlanders, Herentals, MWOS, Scotland FC, Yadah, and most recently, Ngezi Platinum Stars.

Speaking during his visit to Ngezi, the German tactician emphasised the importance of understanding Zimbabwe’s football culture as a whole.

“Zimbabwean football is rich with passion and potential. Every visit I make allows me to understand not just the players, but also the culture and community around the game. This is how we grow together,” Nees told ZIFA Media.

Nees is expected to continue his outreach programme in the coming weeks as he looks to strengthen relationships with local clubs ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.

CAF has confirmed Zimbabwe’s fixtures, with the Warriors drawn in Group B alongside Egypt and COSAFA rivals South Africa and Angola.
