Munetsi on Target for Wolves as Mheuka, Nyoni, Rushesha, Nyakuhwa Feature

Munetsi Goal Lifts Wolves as Zimbabwean Stars Feature Across League Cup

Marshall Munetsi scored his first goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers to spark a 2–0 win over Everton in the Carabao Cup third round at Molineux.

The Warriors vice-captain struck in the 29th minute, slotting home after Jhon Arias’ volley was parried into his path. His all-round display – breaking up play, pressing hard, and distributing calmly – earned him a 7.4 rating, underlining his growing influence since joining Wolves in the summer.

Tolu Arokodare’s late strike sealed the victory, sending Wolves through as they seek to rebuild confidence after a poor league start.

Elsewhere in the League Cup, several Zimbabwean players and prospects were in action:

Tanatswa Nyakukwa made a substitute appearance as Cardiff City pulled off a notable upset, beating Premier League side Burnley.

Former Warriors right-back Tendayi Darikwa featured for Lincoln City, who bravely took the lead but eventually lost 2–1 to Chelsea. The Blues later introduced teenage Zimbabwean prospect Shumaira Mheuka to help see out the game after scoring two quickfire goals early in the second half.

Highly-rated midfielder Trey Nyoni impressed with a full 90-minute performance for Liverpool in their 2–1 win over Southampton.

Right-back Tivonge Rushesha played the second half for Reading in their 2–0 defeat away at Wrexham.

For Munetsi, the goal could not have come at a better time, with the Warriors preparing for a crucial World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Durban on 10 October. His sharp form will be a major boost for Zimbabwe as they look to find form in Group C deciders.
