Scottland FC have moved to dismiss claims that club president Scott Sakupwanya’s US$100,000 sponsorship of Simba Bhora was an attempt to influence the Castle Lager PSL title race.
The funds, provided through Sakupwanya’s company Better Brands, were directed to Simba Bhora to support their CAF Champions League preliminary round clash against Eswatini’s Nsingizini FC.
In a statement, Scottland stressed that the sponsorship falls under Simba Bhora’s existing deal with Better Brands, which has been in place since the start of the season. The club insisted the support had “nothing to do with Scottland FC or the title race,” adding that the team remains committed to fair play and will contest the league on the pitch.
Scottland also pointed out the irony of the allegations, noting that they had just lost to Simba Bhora in a recent match that kept them in second place. The statement concluded by wishing Simba Bhora success as Zimbabwe’s flag bearers in continental football.
