Wales-born winger Tanatswa Nyakuhwa is emerging as one of Cardiff City’s brightest prospects, with Belgian giants Anderlecht renewing their interest in securing his services.

The 19-year-old left-sided forward, who signed his first professional contract with the Welsh club in July last year, made his senior debut on the final day of the 2023/24 Championship season against Norwich City. He has since been part of Cardiff’s pre-season and is highly regarded by new head coach Brian Barry-Murphy, who has handed opportunities to the club’s most talented academy graduates.

While Nyakuhwa has represented Wales at youth international level, he remains eligible to play for Zimbabwe through his family heritage and is reportedly open to switching allegiance to the Warriors. With the national team rebuilding its squad ahead of World Cup qualifiers, his name is already being discussed as a potential future call-up.

His rising profile has also attracted attention outside Britain. Anderlecht, one of Belgium’s most decorated clubs, have rekindled their pursuit of the winger after first enquiring about him earlier this year. Reports suggest the Brussels outfit are keen on a loan move, though Cardiff have insisted they will not sanction a permanent exit.

For Zimbabwe, the potential capture of a Europe-based winger of Nyakuhwa’s calibre would be a major boost. Known for his pace, direct dribbling and ability to play on either flank, he fits the profile of the new generation of Warriors being groomed for the 2025 AFCON and beyond.

Although Cardiff may look to loan him within England’s lower leagues to aid his development, the interest from Anderlecht underlines the talent at hand – and strengthens the argument for Zimbabwe to secure his international future sooner rather than later.
