I can’t wait to play: Isaac Mabaya Speaks

Zimbabwe Warriors prospect Isaac Mabaya joins Wigan Athletic on loan from Liverpool

Liverpool defender Isaac Mabaya has joined EFL League One side Wigan Athletic on loan until June 2026, the club confirmed on Friday morning.

The 20-year-old, who came through Liverpool’s academy, is one of several young talents loaned out by the Reds this season in search of regular first-team action.

Speaking about the move, Mabaya said:
“I know how big this club is and I can’t wait to play in front of the fans. I’ve heard great things about the supporters and how much they mean to the team.”

The versatile right-back has represented England at various youth levels and made his senior Liverpool debut under Jurgen Klopp. He also featured twice this year under new boss Arne Slot — appearing in a UEFA Champions League tie against PSV Eindhoven and an FA Cup match versus Plymouth Argyle.

Wigan Athletic’s manager also expressed excitement over Mabaya’s arrival, saying the defender brings quality and promise to their squad.
