It’s been a busy summer for Liverpool, but amid the headline-grabbing arrivals, one of the club’s brightest young prospects is also making waves — Trey Nyoni.
The 17-year-old midfielder, who has featured regularly in Liverpool’s youth set-up, has been handed a new squad number ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, switching from 98 to 42 — a move that signals his growing status within the senior setup.
Nyoni recently underlined his potential by scoring in Liverpool’s 3–1 pre-season win over Yokohama F. Marinos, further boosting his profile ahead of the new season. Born in England to Zimbabwean parents, Nyoni remains eligible to represent either country internationally.
His international career with England has progressed rapidly through the age groups. He made an instant impact at U16 level, scoring and assisting on his debut against Italy in August 2022. Since then, he’s gone on to earn caps for the U17s, U18s, U19s, and most recently, the England U20s, making his debut in March 2025 in a 1–1 draw against Portugal.
