Nakamba In, Hadebe Incoming, $400k Secured — Warriors Step Up AFCON Build-Up
The Warriors’ preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations are gathering momentum as more foreign-based players prepare to join camp. Locally based players assembled two weeks ago, with Marvelous Nakamba linking up with the squad last week and Teenage Hadebe expected shortly after arriving from the United States.
Talks between ZIFA and Plymouth Argyle continue regarding Brendan Galloway’s release, as the English club initially hoped he could play one more League One match before travelling. All foreign-based players must be released by 15 December, just days before AFCON begins on 21 December in Morocco.
In a major boost, the national team received USD 400,000 from President Emmerson Mnangagwa, handed over by Sports Minister Anselem Sanyatwe during the Warriors’ send-off dinner. The funds are earmarked for player welfare and logistical support throughout the tournament.
Zimbabwe, drawn in Group B with Egypt, South Africa and Angola, will open their AFCON campaign against Egypt on 22 December.
