Clubs in the Zimbabwean top flight, Premier Soccer League have voted to expand the number of teams in the league from 18 to 20 in line with the proposal from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).
This decision by the PSL clubs means that no team will be relegated this season.
In a meeting held in the capital today, the clubs unanimously voted to endorse the proposal by ZIFA as a ‘stabilisation move.’
They said the move is in line with efforts to revive the local game.
The four promoted teams FC Hunters, Hardrock, Agama, and Bulawayo Chiefs will put the number of the teams in the league to 22.
However, a way would be devised to cut the teams to 20 for the 2027 season.
Modalities are being worked out to see if it is possible to have a national first division one league, as proposed by Zifa.
The country’s football mother body is currently engaging football stakeholders on the reforms of local football.
