Warriors midfielder Andy Rinomhota has officially found a new home after spending five months as a free agent. The 28-year-old has completed a return to Reading FC, signing a short-term deal that runs until the end of the current season.
Rinomhota, who parted ways with Cardiff City in June following the expiry of his contract, rejoins the club where he first made his professional breakthrough. The Reading academy graduate previously spent seven years with the Royals (2015–2022), racking up 139 appearances and four goals, and was voted the club’s Player of the Season in 2018/19.
Confirming the signing, Reading said in a statement:
“Reading Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Andy Rinomhota on a deal until the end of the season. A player who needs no introduction to Royals supporters, the 28-year-old spent seven years with the club between 2015 and 2022, making 139 appearances and scoring four goals.”
Head coach Leam Richardson, who previously worked with Rinomhota during his loan spell at Rotherham United last season, welcomed the reunion:
“I’ve worked with Andy before and know exactly what he’ll bring to the squad — energy, honesty and a real desire to win. He’s a great professional who knows this club and what it means to represent Reading. I’m delighted to have him back and I’m sure the fans will be too.”
Because his move was completed as a free transfer, Rinomhota was eligible to sign outside the regular transfer window and could make his second debut for Reading against Rotherham United on Saturday, 22 November.
The Zimbabwe international, who went on to make 82 appearances for Cardiff City and was named their Players’ Player of the Season in 2024/25, will wear the number 18 shirt for Reading.
His return marks a full-circle moment for both player and club — a familiar face back to inject energy and leadership into the Royals’ midfield as they push for stability in the second half of the campaign.
