Zidane’s Son Luca Set for Debut Against Zimbabwe After Algeria Call-Up, Report

Zidane Ready to Face Warriors After Algeria Call-Up

A new chapter in football’s most famous legacy is unfolding — Luca Zidane, son of French legend Zinedine Zidane, could make his international debut for Algeria when the Desert Foxes face Zimbabwe in an international friendly on 13 November in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The 27-year-old Granada goalkeeper, who recently switched allegiance from France to Algeria, received his first-ever national team call-up from coach Vladimir Petković, sparking excitement and emotional reactions among fans across North Africa.

“It’s a source of pride for me and my family,” said Zidane upon arrival in Algiers. “The whole family is happy — my grandfather too. It’s my choice, and they’re behind me. I’ve heard about the incredible atmosphere during Algeria’s matches. Personally, I’ll give everything to make the Algerian people proud.”

Having represented France at youth level, Zidane’s decision to don the Algerian colours connects him to his parental roots. The move also highlights Algeria’s growing appeal to dual-national players — especially with the Fennecs already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Although Petković handed the gloves to Alexis Guendouz in Algeria’s recent 3–0 World Cup qualifying win over Somalia, Zidane’s inclusion in the 27-man squad suggests he could finally feature against Zimbabwe — a low-pressure environment perfect for his first cap.

Petković has hinted at rotations for the Jeddah friendly, balancing his squad between foreign-based stars such as Riyad Mahrez, Ismaël Bennacer, and Rayan Aït-Nouri, and emerging names like Zidane, Mohamed Amoura, and Ramiz Zerrouki. The match will also serve as a tactical rehearsal ahead of December’s AFCON finals in Morocco, where Algeria are among the tournament favourites.

For Zimbabwe, the clash presents an important test for new coach Marian Marinica, whose Warriors will use the encounter to assess combinations and sharpen competitive rhythm before their own AFCON group campaign.

Zidane’s possible debut adds intrigue to a fixture already rich in storylines — one that not only bridges generations but could also see another Zidane name echo on international football’s grand stage.
