The Warriors started brightly, with Garananga’s header in the 10th minute forcing a fine save from Benin goalkeeper Dandjinou. Maswanhise and Zemura were lively on the flanks, creating openings for Kadewere and Chirewa, but Zimbabwe could not convert their chances.
At the other end, Washington Arubi kept the Warriors in the game, pulling off a brilliant save to deny Moumini’s close-range header just before the interval. Benin threatened mainly from set-pieces and long-range efforts, while Zimbabwe enjoyed more possession but lacked sharpness in the final third.
